We must remember in times such as this: we are not the crazy ones. We are not the outlandish ones. They want us to think we are crazy — we are sane. To demand affordable housing, a decent wage, the right to healthcare, that we pay to care for our people instead of the flattening of Palestinians and oppressed people abroad is not a radical act — it is basic and core humanity. We will send a loud message to President Donald Trump: his authoritarianism is no good here. We will send a message to ICE: that secret police do not belong here. When I think about what is happening throughout our nation today, and what Donald Trump has done in his demolition of the White House — we must let him know: That house doesn't belong to him. | Jason, I delivered the Democratic Spanish language response to President Trump's State of the Union address yesterday. Because Americans didn't need another speech from Donald Trump pretending everything is fine when their bills are too high, paychecks are too low, and masked and militarized federal agents are roaming our communities violating constitutional rights on a daily basis. I refuse to accept the president's failed economic agenda that makes billionaires richer while middle class Americans see their health care costs rise. I refuse to accept a federal government that weaponizes federal agencies against immigrants and U.S. citizens alike. And I refuse to accept attacks on the right to vote. There is a better path — one that lowers costs, safeguards our democracy, and reins in rogue federal agencies. Americans demand and deserve accountability, stability, and a government that works for them. But it is up to us to put in the work and build a better future for everyone.
