On Instagram last weekend, someone asked me, "Did the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act get passed?"

No. It has passed the House. It has not yet passed the Senate.

If it went to the Senate as a standalone bill, it would require 60 votes to pass.

I do not see 10 Democrats signing on to passing it — but I'm also not sure if even the entire Republican caucus in the Senate would pass it.

It seems as though House Republicans are trying to engage in a pressure campaign on the Senate. They may try to append it to some other legislation. I don't know how successful that would be.

The SAVE Act is very dangerous. It hurts everybody, but it especially penalizes married women because your ID needs to match your birth certificate in order to vote.

It is a poll tax on everybody. So you would need to pay for a passport — or another copy of your birth certificate — in order to vote.

This administration is much more prepared and planned this time around, in terms of the kinds of chaos that they're trying to unleash.

They want us to say, "America has gone to hell in a handbasket" and give up. Hell no.
