Jason --

It’s been a few weeks, and I’m honored to be writing to you as your president-elect.

I know that last month was not an easy one, but for so many Americans, this Thanksgiving holiday reminded us of the ideals at the core of this holiday: faith, courage, sacrifice, service to country, service to each other, and gratitude even in the face of suffering.

To those who forewent family traditions, who stayed home, and celebrated in new ways, thank you. Jill and I are thankful for your sacrifice.

And today, Jason, I’m writing with a message of hope: help is on the way.

With Vice President-elect Kamala Harris by my side, my team and I are hard at work preparing to fight for you and your family on day one of my administration. We know there isn’t a moment to waste as we confront this pandemic and start building back better.

So Jason, I hope you’re getting some rest over this holiday season -- because we’ve got tough work ahead, and I’m going to need you by my side.

Now, I’ll get right to it. Here’s what the Biden-Harris Transition has been doing, and what we have in store ahead of January 20th.

Transition Updates

Just before Thanksgiving, I announced the core members of my national security, foreign policy, and law enforcement team. They are experienced and crisis-tested. They will keep us safe and secure. And, they are leaders who look like America and reflect my core belief that we lead not just by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.

You can click the image below to learn about this historic team. Together, we have a loud and clear message: America is back. And America is ready to lead.

National Security Team

This week I was proud to announce key nominations and appointments for critical economic positions in my administration. From the most unequal economic and jobs crisis in modern history, we can build a new American economy that works for everyone.

But we need to act now -- and we have to work together. That’s why I’ve assembled a first-rate team that will be ready on day one to pull every lever of government to help those hardest hit by COVID-19 and address the structural inequalities in our economy.

You can click the image below to meet the people who will lead the charge to get us through the economic crisis and help build our economy back better than before:

Economic Team

And, I’ve been meeting with leaders from both parties to talk about how we’re going to beat COVID-19. We might be Democrats and Republicans, but we’re Americans first -- I was proud to meet with a bipartisan group of governors and mayors from across the country to discuss how we’re going to beat this thing, together.

What’s Coming

We’ll continue to fight for the heroes on the front line of this crisis, like the health care workers that Jill and I were honored to speak with on Thanksgiving Day. We’re thankful every day for the nurses and firefighters who sacrifice so much to keep our communities safe. We see the very best of America in your courage and selflessness. And we’re going to fight like hell to keep you safe.

In the meantime, we’re also preparing for an inauguration like no other. While I don’t have many details I can share with you yet, my team has already made some great stuff to help you celebrate on January 20th. Make sure to head over to store.bideninaugural.org to see it all!

Over the next few weeks, I’ll continue to meet with government leaders, experts, and people affected by our most pressing issues. I’ll also announce more key members of my administration -- and yes, that will include the new cat who will be joining our dogs Champ and Major in the White House.

In all sincerity though, I’m assembling a team to confront the crises we face -- containing this pandemic, rebuilding our economy, ending racial injustice, fighting climate change, and more -- and I’m so proud that you’re a part of it.

We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, Jason.

But these past few weeks have left me even more inspired by the American people. It’s always been a bad bet to bet against America, and that’s more true today than ever.

So Jason, I’ll leave you with something my Dad used to say to me.

He’d say, “Joey, I don’t expect the government to solve my problems. But I expect it to understand my problems.”

We’re building a team that understands.

The Biden-Harris Administration will understand your struggles, and we’ll do our best to fix them. And together, we can begin the work to heal, unite, and rebuild our country.

And now, it’s time to get to work.

- Joe

My next round of Cabinet nominations

I am proud to present to you my nominations for our economic leadership team:
 ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Jason,

It’s Joe. This year not only saw smaller gatherings around the Thanksgiving table, but also a lot more uncertainty for many American families. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only caused a public health crisis, but an economic crisis, too.

It will be the job of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and me to take this economic crisis head-on, and deliver immediate relief for the American people.

That’s why I am proud to present to you my nominations for our economic leadership team who will help us build our economy back better than ever:

Janet Yellen as Secretary of the Treasury
Janet is one of America’s leading economists. She served as the 15th Chair of the Federal Reserve, the first woman to lead America’s central banking system. And now, if confirmed, she will break another glass ceiling as the first woman to serve as Secretary of the Treasury in its 231 years of existence, and the first person to ever serve as Treasury Secretary, Chair of the Federal Reserve, and Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers. I am proud to have her trail-blazing leadership at the helm of my economic team.

Neera Tanden as Director of Office of Management and Budget
Neera is battle-tested and ready to get the job done as our next Director of Office of Management and Budget. She has been at the forefront in creating policies designed to support America’s working families. She’ll fight for your family as if it were her own, because her experience as a child relying on food stamps and Section 8 housing instilled in her a belief that our economy must serve the dignity and humanity of all people. If confirmed, she’ll be the first woman of color and the first South Asian American to lead the OMB, and I’m excited to watch her make history.

Wally Adeyemo as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury
During the Obama-Biden administration, Wally was front and center at the economic decision-making table. Among a broad range of posts, he served as President Obama’s international economic adviser, and now currently serves as the president of the Obama Foundation. If confirmed, he would be the first African American Deputy Secretary of the Treasury. There is no one better equipped for this post to help lead America out of its current economic crisis, and I’m proud to have Wally on the team.

Cecilia Rouse as Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers
If confirmed to this post, Cecilia Rouse will become the first African American and just the fourth woman to lead the Council of Economic Advisors. She served on this council during the Obama-Biden administration, and the National Economic Council during the Clinton administration. Cecilia is now the Dean of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, and I know that she is an accomplished leader who has the experience to get things done and deliver real results.

Jared Bernstein as Member of the Council of Economic Advisers
Jared is one of my most trusted economic advisors, having served as my chief economist in the Obama-Biden administration. His previous work as Executive Director of the Obama-Biden White House Task Force on the Middle Class, at the Economic Policy Institute, the Clinton Administration, and as a social worker make him uniquely equipped to lead on economic policies that expand opportunity for working Americans.

Heather Boushey as Member of the Council of Economic Advisers
I’ve known Heather for a long time, and I know she’ll make a terrific addition to the CEA. She is a leading voice on matters of economic policy, and now serves as President & CEO of the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. Heather has years of experience at think tanks and on Capitol Hill, and is an expert on the impact of structural inequities on economic growth. I’m proud to have her on board.

Jason, this economic leadership team is comprised of respected and tested groundbreaking public servants who will help the communities hardest hit by COVID-19 and address the structural inequities in our economy. It’s a team that looks like America and brings seriousness of purpose, the highest degree of competency, and unwavering belief in the promise of America.

They will work tirelessly to ensure every American enjoys a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead, and that our businesses can thrive and outcompete the rest of the world.

I believe in this team, and I know that together, there’s nothing we cannot do as Americans when we put our minds to it.

Thanks for reading,

Joe Biden
