If we do not assert ourselves and enshrine our rights — and demand healthcare, and education, and dignity — the alternative is barbarism, which is what we are contending with now.

The fact that people are choosing between medicine and rent is barbarism.

The fact that people are worried about whether they will be on the streets every 4 weeks is barbarism.

The fact that every time a person has an ache or a pain, and they're scared that it could either be a sore joint or cancer, but they can't find out because they can't afford the doctor? This is barbarism.

If we do not demand — and not only demand, but win — unions, healthcare, wages, and ending endless war, then we will condemn ourselves to barbarism.

I refuse to give up. I refuse to submit myself to that future. That's not a life.

And so to live, we have to fight for each other. We have to stand with each other. We have to fight for this vision and this world.

I wanted you to be one of the first to hear the news: I'm running for governor of the state of Minnesota. This is a home-grown campaign, born in a moment like no other.

I'm not going to sugar coat it — Minnesota has been through a lot.

The killings of two innocent Minnesotans. Three thousand ICE agents on our streets and in our towns, sent by an administration that relishes division. Minnesotans stood up. Our state has been the center of America's heartbreak. But we have also been the center of America's courage and America's hope. In moments of enormous difficulty, we find strength in our Minnesota values of hard work, freedom, and simple decency and good will.

These moments call for grit and resilience. I've learned resilience from the people of Minnesota. They have stood up, they have marched, and they have brought food to their neighbors. Through it all we do not give up.

And grit? I learned that from my family. I'm the daughter of a newspaperman and a proud union member teacher. My grandpa worked 1500 feet underground in the mines on the Iron Range, and he saved his money in a coffee can in the basement to send my dad to college. I wouldn't be where I am today without them.

These times call for leaders who can stand up and not be rubber stamps of this administration. But who are also willing to find common ground and fix things in our state.

I led our state's biggest prosecutors' office for eight years and then you gave me the honor of serving as your United States Senator. I was ranked number one in the Senate for bipartisan bills and number three out of one hundred for getting bills passed into law.

I will do my job without fear or favor. I've never shied away from taking on the powerful. That's what I did as prosecutor. That's what I did as senator. And that's what I will do as your governor.

I believe we must stand up for what's right. And fix what's wrong. I am running for every Minnesotan who wants to buy their first home, for every parent who wants a better world for their kids, for everyone who wants more affordable healthcare. I am running for every Minnesotan who wants to protect our democracy and get ICE and its abusive tactics out of the state we love.

And I'm running for every student, farmer, dreamer and builder.
