Jason, 2022 was a banner year for Democrats. But as the Director of Civic Engagement and Voter Protection at the DNC, I'd be remiss if I didn't make one thing clear: Democrats won in the face of Republicans' efforts to limit the right to vote.
The DNC has been investing in crucial voter protection programs to ensure every eligible person gets to exercise their freedom to vote. Grassroots donors like you made my team's work possible for the midterm elections. But protecting the freedom to vote demands continued investment, Jason.
That's why we're asking this team to support the DNC's Voter Protection Fund. I'm asking you to chip in $7 to this fund for the first time. Anything you're able to give will help protect the right to vote and elect Democrats across the country.
With the support of this grassroots team, the DNC made historic investments in voter protection, including:
- Investing early in voter protection nationwide: Working with our sister committees and state parties, Democrats had Voter Protection Directors in 25 states and more than 100 total voter protection staff on the ground. Investing early meant that voter protection teams were in position to advocate for accessible early voting sites; to review and identify problematic ballot designs in time to advocate for better designs; and to develop working relationships with local election officials, whose work is essential to the sound administration of the election.
- Creating a comprehensive set of tools and services to assist voters directly and support state voter protection programs: From IWillVote.com's one-stop shop for voting questions to The National Voter Assistance Hotline and Accessibility Textline, the DNC made it a priority to provide clear, easily accessible information for voters across the country.
- Litigating to protect voters and the election system: The DNC successfully defended state election laws providing for early and mail voting against Republican challenge, including in Arizona and Pennsylvania. We also litigated in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to ensure that voters casting mail ballots have the opportunity to correct errors in returning those ballots and to ensure that minor errors are not a basis to throw out the ballots of eligible voters.
But with GOP lawmakers not showing any signs of slowing down their attacks on the right to vote, we can't afford to take our foot off the gas either.
Every penny raised for the Voter Protection Fund will go toward voter education, registration, technology, and more to protect the right to vote and elect Democrats nationwide.
So please, rush a $7 contribution to the DNC's Voter Protection Fund today. Whatever you can afford to give will make a big difference in our fight to defend our democracy and elect Democrats nationwide.
Thank you for all that you do,
Reyna
