Throughout Black History Month and all year long, Democrats celebrate the contributions of Black Americans past and present. Both our party and our nation have come so far standing on the shoulders of giants like Fannie Lou Hamer, Jesse Jackson, and Shirley Chisholm who paved the way for so many. This month, we champion members of our party who have made history in the last election, like Wes Moore, the first Black governor of Maryland; Summer Lee, the first Black congresswoman from Pennsylvania; House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress; the list goes on. We honor these firsts, and so many others at the state, federal, and municipal levels who reflect the diversity of our nation.
