This Nurses Week -- in addition to acknowledging their dedication, compassion, and hard work -- we want to celebrate the steps the Biden-Harris administration has taken to support nurses, doctors, and health care professionals. These efforts have included financial relief, support for telehealth expansion, addressing burnout and mental health issues, and investments in health care infrastructure and workforce development. Here are some key highlights: - American Rescue Plan: Signed into law in March 2021, the American Rescue Plan included provisions to expand access to health care coverage and reduce costs. This included subsidies to help individuals purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges and incentives for states to expand Medicaid.
- The Nursing Home Minimum Staffing Rule: The administration finalized a rule requiring all nursing homes that receive federal funding through Medicare and Medicaid to increase staffing based on residents' needs.
- Telehealth Expansion: The Biden administration expanded access to telehealth services, which was particularly beneficial not only for patients, but for doctors and other health care professionals.
