The anti-voter bill Republicans are about to pass in my home state of Texas is as bad as it gets, Jason.
Not only does it restrict voter registration, absentee voting, weekend voting, and polling hours -- it also makes it harder for folks with disabilities to vote by mail and discourages others from providing anyone a ride to the polls.
The GOP's anti-voter bills are nothing more than a power grab by a party that's losing its grip -- and it's up to us to respond urgently to these attacks on our democracy.
That means making sure legislation like the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act can pass in Congress and that we continue to elect Democrats prepared to fight for the right to vote at the local and state levels -- and none of that will be possible without a strong DNC.
Please rush a $7 gift to the DNC's Voter Protection Fund today. Your donation will help protect the right to vote and elect Democrats up and down the ticket in 2022 and 2024.
This bill in Texas -- and many of the anti-voter bills being ushered through state legislatures nationwide -- was written behind closed doors and passed in the middle of the night. And that should come as no surprise, Jason, because the impacts are insidious.
It creates barriers for voters with disabilities, makes it harder to vote by mail, and more because of this simple fact: Republicans know that when more people vote, they lose.
We cannot stand on the sidelines as more bills like this one in Texas become law, Jason. This is part of a national campaign, and more than 380 voter suppression bills have already been introduced in state legislatures nationwide this year.
But the DNC is at the ready -- litigating cases, running a 24/7 voter protection hotline, and organizing in every community to fend off Republican attacks on the right to vote. So, I have to ask:
Will you make a $7 donation to the DNC's Voter Protection Fund today to help protect the right to vote and elect Democrats nationwide? Whatever you're able to pitch in will go a long way in the years to come.
Thank you, Jason.
Julián Castro
P.S. Texas Republicans are poised to pass another bill to further obstruct voter access to the ballot box. I'm counting on you to make sure we stand up for democracy at its time of need. Rush an emergency $7 donation to the DNC's Voter Protection Fund to help protect the right to vote and elect Democrats nationwide.
