As a kid, my parents told me about how my grandparents met on a plantation and how my grandfather went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. But it wasn't until much later, when I went to graduate school, that I learned my grandfather was unable to access benefits from the G.I. Bill simply because he was a Black man in Louisiana.
That one bill that changed so many lives could have set my family -- and other Black families -- on a totally different course. Knowing that, I chose to center all that I do in advancing equity for marginalized communities and fight for families like mine. That valuable lesson led me to serve as the DNC's first Director of Coalitions and Community Engagement earlier this year.
My team's work at the DNC is all about building up our communities -- meeting folks where they're at, listening to their needs and ideas, and creating relationships to foster a strong and diverse coalition of Democrats.
Now, listen, Jason: Sitting down with our fellow Democrats and charting a path forward for our party is nothing new. It's how we won in 2020 -- and I'm hoping it's how we'll win next year too. But it's not cheap to reach out to Democrats in every part of our country, and that's why I'm counting on you:
Will you make a $7 donation to the DNC today to help make sure we can reach folks that embody the diversity of our party early on and elect Democrats up and down the ballot?
Last year, we proved that grassroots engagement is at the heart of everything that we do, Jason. Democrats turned out a record number of voters, took back the White House, and flipped Senate control -- you and every member of this team made that happen.
Now, we need to build on our progress and keep bringing more folks into the fold ahead of 2021 and 2022. The good news is: A lot of that critical work has already begun!
The DNC is doubling down on our investments to engage with folks where they're at early on and then turn them out to vote come Election Day. That means partnering with organizers to reach voters from all walks of life, identifying and developing future leaders, and working closely with the DNC's voter protection department to combat Republican-led voter suppression efforts across the country.
The work we do now to engage and mobilize voters will determine if we win next year -- so if you can, please make a $7 donation to the DNC today.
Thanks for being a part of this,
Brencia
