What brought me to the DNC

The goal of my department is decidedly simple: To ensure all eligible voters can cast a ballot -- and have that ballot counted.

When I was a law student at Howard University, I never imagined that one day I'd return to campus as the DNC's Director of Civic Engagement and Voter Protection. And I definitely would not have guessed I would be standing alongside our country's first woman and first Black vice president either. But that's exactly what happened back in July, when Vice President Harris announced the DNC's historic investment in voter education, protection, registration, and technology ahead of next year's midterm elections. Right now, my team is working around the clock to assemble the DNC's largest-ever voter protection program -- and with Republicans leading a no-holds-barred campaign attacking the right to vote nationwide, it couldn't come at a more important time. Republicans have already enacted restrictive voting laws in key battleground states like Texas, Georgia, and Florida -- all in a grand scheme to prevent communities of color, young folks, people with disabilities, and anyone who stands in their way from having their vote counted. I came to work at the DNC because I believe the right to vote is our most sacred, fundamental right -- and we must do everything in our power to protect it.
