Hi Jason -- I'm Katie Hobbs, the Democratic nominee for governor in Arizona.
After the Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade, Arizona's attorney general vowed to reinstitute a 1901 state law that was previously blocked by Roe's federal protections. In our state, nearly all abortions could be criminalized, and doctors who perform abortions could face prison time, even for a woman's health.
Governors are now the final line of defense to protect access to safe and legal abortion -- and it's never been more urgent to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot.
My opponent, radical conspiracy theorist Kari Lake, calls abortion "the ultimate sin." I promise you that if I am elected to serve as governor of the state of Arizona, I will do everything in my power to secure women's rights for the next generation.
With so much at stake, will you sign up to receive updates from my campaign, help elect Democrats, and defend abortion rights nationwide?
Like it is for many other women, the overturning of Roe is personal for me. When I suffered a miscarriage, the doctors told me that, for my health, they would need to perform a procedure -- the same procedure that's commonly used for abortions. Now, after the Supreme Court's decision, women in many states may run into obstacles accessing that care.
Losing a pregnancy is already hard enough. I can't imagine what it would have been like had I been unable to access the care I needed. This is now our reality.
It's maddening that my daughter will be entering adulthood with fewer rights than I had 30 years ago -- but it's also motivating. The U.S. Supreme Court has left us no choice but to fight hard for this generation and the next. So, I'm asking:
Will you sign up to receive updates from my campaign and show you're ready to help defeat dangerous extremists like Kari Lake?
Thank you,
Katie
