Just yesterday, Senate Democrats voted to lower the cost of prescription drugs, health insurance, and energy, and reduce the deficit while finally making the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.
Jason, I have to tell you that you played a big role in that vote. I cannot thank you enough for that.
Here's what the bill passed in the Senate would do:
-
Cap seniors' out-of-pocket spending for prescription drugs at $2,000 per year. In addition, the bill locks in reduced health insurance premiums that save about 13 million Americans, covered under the Affordable Care Act, an average of $800 every year.
-
Tackle inflation by lowering the deficit and lowering costs for regular families.
-
Make the largest investment ever in combating the existential crisis of climate change -- creating jobs manufacturing solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles in America with American workers. It will also lower families' energy costs by hundreds of dollars each year.
-
Pay for all this by establishing a minimum corporate tax so that our richest corporations start to pay their fair share. It does not raise taxes on those making under $400,000 a year -- not one cent.
The bottom line is I ran for president promising to make government work for working families again, and that is what this bill does. It's no hyperbole: None of it would have been possible without supporters like you voting, volunteering, and chipping in whatever you could, when you could.
I'll say it again: I'm so proud to have you on my side and on this team, Jason. I look forward to signing this bill into law -- and I hope you know that you played no small role in making it possible.
Thank you for being part of this,
Joe
Joseph R. Biden Jr.
President of the United States
