Happy Women's History Month, Jason! Today, I want to take a moment to honor the progress made possible by the sacrifice, determination, and contributions of women who have made our party and our country stronger. We stand on the shoulders of women who dared to open new doors, shape our progress, and strengthen our character as a people. Generations of Native women were stewards of the land and continue to lead the fight for climate justice. Black women fought to end slavery, advocated for civil rights, and helped pass the Voting Rights Act. Latina and AAPI labor leaders championed and organized for better conditions for domestic and agricultural workers. Suffragists helped pass the 19th Amendment to the Constitution so that no American could be denied the right to vote on the basis of sex. And now, we recognize the women at the forefront of our fight to protect reproductive rights both before and after the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade. As Democrats, we recognize that there is no time like the present to be the change we want to see. That is why the DNC will never stop working to fight for reproductive justice, protect progress for women everywhere, and build a more equitable and just future for all. This month, we champion the women of our party who have made history, like Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman and the first Black and AAPI person elected Vice President; Governors Maura Healey (MA) and Tina Kotek (OR), the first women and lesbians elected to the position of governor; Rep. Summer Lee, the first Black woman elected to Congress from Pennsylvania; Rep. Becca Balint, the first woman and openly gay person to represent Vermont in Congress; Rep. Delia Ramirez, the first Latina congresswoman from Illinois; and Aruna Miller, the first AAPI person and first immigrant elected lieutenant governor of Maryland; the list goes on. We honor these firsts, and so many others at the state, federal, and municipal levels who reflect the diversity of our nation. As we reflect on these achievements this month and beyond, join me by staying informed with the DNC Coalitions Team. We have a lot of work ahead, Jason, but with your support, I remain hopeful for the future. Thank you for being part of the team, Ellie Ellie Blaser Director of Operations and Women's Portfolio Liaison, Coalitions and Community Engagement Democratic National Committee |
