Jason, on this day in 1865, the last enslaved Americans learned that they were finally free. Freed Black Americans came to celebrate this date as Emancipation Day, Jubilee Day, and Juneteenth. But that day of celebration only marked the beginning of an ongoing struggle to guide our country toward true justice and equality for all.
This Juneteenth, please join the DNC in recognizing not only how far we've come, but how much work there is left to do to address racial injustice and inequality in our nation. We cannot move forward without action. Just as we ended slavery, we must continue to root out systemic racism that impacts Black communities nationwide.
This year, the battle to address the wounds of inequity in our nation continues in Congress. And it is more important than ever that we commit to protecting and expanding our Democratic majority so that we can continue that fight in the years to come.
There's a lot of work ahead, Jason, but we're happy to march forward to fight racism and achieve equality for all with you at our side.
Happy Juneteenth, and thank you for being a part of this movement.
