Each spring as May rolls around, a special pride swells in my heart. It is because Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month offers us a chance to honor and recognize the hardships we have overcome and how important AANHPI communities are to the cultural, economic, and societal fabric of America.
However, this AANHPI Heritage Month comes with the extra weight of a hardship we continue to face. Hate crimes against AANHPI communities rose sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We know the AANHPI community is strong and resilient. When we have been threatened with racism, exclusion, and displacement in the past, we have come together to raise our voices and fight for justice. We are a fundamental part of this country, this electorate, and this party. Our voices will be heard and our impact will be groundbreaking.
So, I hope you will join me this AANHPI Heritage Month in recognizing and celebrating the impact of AANHPI communities. And I hope you will sign up to join our AANHPI mailing list to stay involved in the Democratic Party.
Thank you, and Happy Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
