Another week, another Team Joe newsletter!
June marks LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Jason. It's a time to honor the rich and vibrant queer community, reflect on the past, and recommit to the work ahead.
Time and again, the LGBTQ+ community has shown tenacity. Together with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats across the country, we'll continue the fight until everyone -- no matter your sexual orientation or gender identity -- can live in a world where they feel safe, accepted, and loved.

Addressing the Infant Formula Shortage
The Biden-Harris administration is taking immediate action to address the infant formula shortage and the underlying supply issues. This includes:
πΌ Helping reopen a critical production facility: Last weekend, baby formula producer Abbott Laboratories announced it had reopened its factory in Sturgis, Michigan -- a crucial step in alleviating the shortage. The FDA previously reached an agreement with Abbott on a plan to reopen the facility.
πΌ Invoking the Defense Production Act: President Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to allow infant formula manufacturers to get raw materials from their suppliers and speed up production. Producers are already seeing increased production as a result of this order.
πΌ Operation Fly Formula: President Biden directed the Department of Health and Human Services and the USDA to use Department of Defense-contracted commercial aircraft to pick up infant formula from overseas. Just yesterday, an Operation Fly Formula mission delivered 110,000 pounds of infant formula — enough for approximately 1.6 million 8-ounce bottles — from Germany to Fort Worth, Texas.

For the first time in recent history, White House interns will be paid
Last week, President Biden and Vice President Harris announced that for the first time in recent history, White House interns will be paid.
Too often, unpaid federal internships have been a barrier to hardworking and talented students and professionals, preventing them from contributing their talents and skills to the country and holding them back from federal career advancement opportunities.
This significant milestone of paying White House interns will help remove barriers to equal opportunity for low-income students and first-generation professionals at the beginnings of their careers and help to ensure that those who receive internships at the White House reflect the diversity of America.
