Jason,
In just a minute I'm going to ask if you can split a $10 donation between my reelection campaign and the DNC ahead of Friday's end-of-quarter FEC deadline.
But first, I hope you'll give me a minute to tell you a little more about my race, and why your support is critical right now.
On the lapel of my suits, I wear a pin depicting a yellow canary in a birdcage. It was given to me decades ago by a steelworker at a Workers' Memorial Day rally -- and, to this day, I wear this canary instead of the official Senate pin:
Here's why: In the early days of the 20th century, coal miners would bring canaries deep into the mines to warn them of poisonous gasses. Back then, workers didn't have a union strong enough or a government that cared enough to protect them.
Over the years, workers organized and fought back to make a change. Through their organizing efforts, worker safety laws and overtime pay were passed. Child labor was banned. Clean air and safe drinking water laws were passed. Programs like Social Security and Medicare were enacted, in addition to workers' rights and women's rights and civil rights.
We did that because, when you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work.
But to keep up that work, I need to win my race in Ohio, and I'm one of the most vulnerable Senators up for reelection in 2024. So I'm asking: Will you split a $10 donation between my campaign and the DNC to help win this race and elect Democrats up and down the ballot?
Thanks, Jason -- I'm very grateful to have you in my corner.
