I talk about my grandfather quite a bit, Jason -- and for good reason. Growing up with him and my grandma in Orangeburg, South Carolina, we didn't have a lot. But he taught me to be grateful for everything we had because there was always someone who had less.
If your family is anything like mine, you'll go around the Thanksgiving table tomorrow and tell the ones you love what you're thankful for. There's the usual stuff: A roof over our heads, my mac n' cheese recipe, our family and friends…
But this year, I get to add something new to that list: Supporters like you, Jason.
As the chair of the DNC, I have the honor of seeing your generosity at work every day of the year. The college student who chipped in $5. The working mom who made calls after her kids went to bed. The school teacher who knocked doors on the weekends.
With your support, our party has started to lay the groundwork to help Democrats win in 2022, 2024, and beyond:
-
We made record investments in state parties, on-the-ground organizing, and voter protection to ensure that Democrats up and down the ballot have the resources they need to compete and win everywhere.
-
We ran voter education and turnout programs for the governors' races in Virginia and New Jersey -- and while the commonwealth didn't turn out the way we'd hoped, it taught us a valuable lesson: We need to invest early and often to turn out voters in every community across the country.
-
We're gearing up to hire even more organizers, run trainings and boot camps, and more to protect and expand our slim majorities.
Now, history hasn't been kind to the party in power in the midterms. We'll be looked over. We'll be counted out. But as a Black man from South Carolina whose grandpa couldn't always vote, that's nothing new for me. I've been thinking about him a lot in the last few days, and Jason, something's sticking with me.
Mr. Bookie, my grandfather, used to say that a man is only as good as his word. I'm here to tell you that we can buck history. We can make our own history. The real question is whether we can come and stick together to make it happen. So before you sign off for the Thanksgiving holiday, I have to ask:
Can I count on you to make a $7 donation to the DNC today? Every dollar will make a big difference in our work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
Thank you for your support. It means a whole lot.
