As some folks are enjoying a day off, we have to address the elephant in the room: America has been knocked down.
This pandemic has stretched so many families to their breaking point, with unemployment numbers climbing and millions of people seeing their hours, wages, and health care cut.
It has also laid bare some unacceptable truths -- that too many families were already struggling to make ends meet, and too many parents were worried about the economic future for their children.
It forced us to reckon with the truth that Black and Latino Americans, Native Americans, immigrants, and women have never been welcomed as full participants in the economy.
The weight of this crisis calls for more than a plan to restore our economy to its previous state, with its structural weaknesses and inequalities still in place -- we must imagine and build a new American economy for our families and the next generation. Good-paying jobs are a floor, not a ceiling.
That means we're not just going to build back to where we were before Trump, we're going to build back better and create an economy where America's working families have the tools, choices, and freedom they need to get ahead.
Jason, that's exactly what Joe's Build Back Better plan will do -- and we're going to get to work for you on Day One of our administration to get the job done.

We're going to bring critical supply chains back and mobilize American manufacturing and innovation so that the future is made in America.
We're going to build a 21st-century caregiving and education workforce, helping ease the burden of care for working parents, especially women.
And we're going to mobilize across the board to advance racial equity in America by fighting to close the racial wealth gap, expanding affordable housing, and investing in Black, Latino, and Native American entrepreneurs and communities.
This plan will also ensure jobs are high-paying jobs that provide a choice to join a union.
It's a bold plan, Jason, but it's one that absolutely meets the moment we find ourselves in today -- and it's the least we can do for all of the workers who have so faithfully brought us through the darkest moments of this pandemic.
