Last week, the Republicans in Washington looked out at all the challenges facing the country right now and decided to close up the House of Representatives until after the midterm elections.
Since I won’t need to be in Washington for the next few weeks, many people have asked me what my plans are.
While many are speculating that I’m thinking about 2028, I am fully focused on Democrats taking back the House and winning a majority in the Senate so we can get to work on an agenda to make life better for working people and to hold the Trump Administration accountable.
If we are going to achieve systemic change — from single-payer healthcare and universal childcare to a living wage and strong workers' rights — we need to build a nationwide movement to make it a reality now.
That means with the 43 days left before election day, we must be campaigning everywhere. In rural and urban communities. In red and blue districts. And especially in places the pundits tell us Democrats cannot win. From New York to Florida, Tennessee to Montana, working people are demanding change and we must speak directly to the fears and anxieties all of us feel every single day.
That is exactly what I plan to do in the coming weeks now that Republicans have canceled votes in Washington.
