If we want a Congress that actually fights for working people, we have to take back the House in November. That will come down to a handful of swing districts where the margins are razor-thin and every door knocked makes a difference.
Virginia's 5th district is one of them.
So today, I am proud to endorse Tom Perriello for Congress.
Tom flipped this seat before by showing up for working families, and he can do it again. But he is up against a Republican incumbent and he needs all of us to have his back. Will you split a donation between our campaigns today?
Here is why I trust Tom to be a fighter in Congress:
He does not take a dime from corporate PACs or lobbyists. Neither do I. When Tom walks into a vote, he answers to the people of his district. Tom has spent the last 25 years taking on corporate lobbyists, electric utility monopolies, and the Trump administration.
Tom has served in Congress before and proved that he will hold the line under pressure. He voted for the Affordable Care Act, which guaranteed coverage for more than 32,000 people in his district and made it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. Corporate lobbyists leaned on him hard to vote no. He voted yes anyway, because it was the right thing to do. We need more of that kind of courage in Washington.
We also agree on something that is common sense: members of Congress must be banned from trading stocks. Members of Congress should not be able to abuse their position in Congress to make huge profits in the stock market.
I would be proud to work alongside Tom to fight for working people and to rid Washington of corruption.
With just 40 days until Election Day, the next few weeks will decide this race. Every donation lets Tom's campaign knock more doors and reach more voters across the district before ballots are cast.
