This week, President Biden asked "What are Republicans for?" Not much, it seems -- except voter suppression.
Republican lawmakers are carrying out an all-out assault on our right to vote. They're gaslighting the American people -- standing in the way of progress by repeatedly blocking federal voting rights legislation, while at the same trying to convince voters that suppression does not exist. We won't let them get away with it.
Because you're a dedicated member of this grassroots team, I wanted to come to you directly and explain how the DNC is fighting state by state, county by county, and voter by voter to make sure every eligible person gets to exercise their right to vote. Supporting efforts to pass federal legislation is one of the many ways that Democrats are fighting for voting rights. It's a long email, and this is still only the start of our work, but it's important -- and afterward, I hope you'll consider chipping in to own a piece of this work and make a $7 donation to the DNC's Voter Protection Fund.
The Largest Investment and Strongest Infrastructure to Date
In July 2021, Vice President Harris announced a historic $25 million expansion of the DNC's longstanding "I Will Vote" Initiative to fund voter education, voter protection, targeted voter registration, and technology to make voting more accessible and to fight back against Republican voter suppression efforts.
Our goal is simple: to invest more than ever before to help Americans overcome Republican obstacles to voting while we continue to fight back in courts and at the polls.
In addition to the "I Will Vote" Initiative, the DNC has also invested significant resources in voter protection staffing and training in key states just within the past year, and there's more still to come. These investments include:
-
Funding dozens of voter protection staffers as well as professional organizers and communicators in priority states like Arizona, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The DNC is staffing up the largest, most comprehensive voter protection team in history earlier than ever before -- and we're just getting started.
-
Hosting a Voter Protection Campaign Readiness Bootcamp with our sister committees and coordinated campaigns to place talented and diverse voter protection staff across the country.
-
Working with every state to build out voter protection programming. In states without voter protection staff, DNC staff works to customize scalable plans that meet the specific needs of their state, allowing us to be an active participant in state voting rights battles and serve as a critical tool for our state party partners.
Building the Tools To Win
The DNC is at the forefront of voter protection data and technology tools and resources. For all 50 states, the DNC provides continual voter protection data and technology resources to state parties and campaigns, including election and voting incident monitoring and tracking tools.
These tools help state parties maximize their voter protection program efforts and target resources where they can have the most impact. This effort represents a significant investment from the DNC, where typically the state parties or campaigns have to spend tens of thousands of dollars for such crucial tools.
Educating and Expanding the Voter Base
With the rules constantly in flux as a result of Republican attacks, it is essential to provide every voter with the latest and most accurate information about where and how to vote.
To support that effort, the DNC has committed to funding television and digital ads to educate voters, as well as investing nearly $5 million to register voters. This is the DNC's biggest-ever commitment to voter registration in a midterm cycle.
Our voter protection programs are vital to defending our democracy -- but they also require a tremendous amount of support to be effective. That's where you come in, Jason. None of this would be possible without the generosity of supporters like you -- and right now, with the GOP waging an all-out assault on access to the ballot box, we can't afford to scale back.
If you're able, make a $7 donation to the DNC's Voter Protection Fund so we can continue defending our democracy and electing Democrats who will do the same.
Thank you,
Reyna
